THE  ABERDYFI ARTIST

June 2002                                                    ISSUE NO 21

Dear Member,

Not much news or comment, the main points are about the Annual Exhibition, the forms for which are enclosed. They are

1.                  Change of  dates of Exhibition. I am afraid that we have had to bring the whole thing back by a week, so it now starts on Monday 22nd July instead of Monday 29th July as detailed on your membership card. Paintings therefore need to be brought to Neuadd Dyfi on the morning of Saturday 20th July. We are sorry about this, but our hosts, the Neuadd Dyfi Committee, made a double booking on our proposed final week, involving complicated matters which they said their second bookee could not alter. All very annoying, but there was not much we could do about it.

2.                  Laser Prints. It was observed last year that some members were exhibiting the same picture at different venues at the same time. It was obvious that these were laser prints. The Committee wish to remind all exhibitors that the exhibition is for original works only and not copies or prints of those works.

3.                  Quality of framing. Members are reminded that pictures should be reasonably framed. It is felt that some recent submissions have not had the quality of framing required, thus affecting the overall appearance of the exhibition.

4.                  Hanging of pictures. The Committee has agreed that after the initial hanging, the only persons to move pictures or hang replacements should be members of the Committee, at least one of whom will attend the Neuadd daily.

5.                  Entry closing date. Entry forms to be received by John Hoyle not later than Saturday 6th July. Late entries will not be accepted.

6.         Screens. The screens will be painted before the exhibition and volunteers are sought. We will paint them at the Neuadd one evening soon, on a date yet to be agreed. If you are willing to assist please give me a ring as soon as possible.

I hope that as many members as possible will submit pictures and help to make this a bumper show. Last year was our first exhibition at our new venue and there were a few teething troubles, but we hope to have all these resolved this year. New members should not be timid. Remember this is intended to be an exhibition of members’ work, not a sale, although of course, any pictures sold are of benefit to the artist and to the Society!

Corris Railway. What and where? I hear you say. Well, I have no vested interest, other than that of being an inhabitant of the community of Corris, but I thought members may like to know that the Corris Railway Society has at last managed to start a passenger service on part of the route of the old Corris Railway. Trains run between Corris Station and Maespoeth Engine Shed on the hour every hour between 11.00am and 4.00pm every Sunday and Bank Holiday during the summer. Jean and I have been on it and it is well worth a trip.

That’s all for now. I hope you all have an enjoyable summer,

Bev Barratt
